I am making a coconut cream cake that calls for the mixing of one can of sweeten condensed milk and a can of cream of coconut to be combined and poured over the warm cake. I could not find cream of coconut, but rather coconut milk at the grocery. Will this make a significant difference in my cake? Where can I find cream of coconut if so? Thanks in advance!Coconut Milk in place of coconut cream? Will it work?
It will make a difference...coconut cream is where the drink mixes are...used to make pina coladas. if you are making the cake that I am thinking of...it is to die for. Don't swap out ingredients, you'll be sorry!.
Cool the cake COMPLETELY before putting it in the fridge. Use real cream for the whipped cream and toast some of the coconut that you put on top of the cake.Coconut Milk in place of coconut cream? Will it work?
I wish I could give you a definite but I think cream of coconut would be a little thicker than coconut mild so it might make a difference. That is just my opinion - lucky for you I work for a culinary school so (admin - not a chef) so let me check with a friend and I'll get back to you on both if this hasn't already been answered:)
Cream of coconut has the pulp of the coconut as well as the milk from the center, so it's a lot thicker. If you're pouring over the cake, coconut milk is going to be very runny. You could try reducing it in a sauce pan to thicken a bit before mixing it with your condensed milk.
i would think that coconut cream means Coco Lopez, which comes in a can and is used for making pina coladas. it might be in the mixed drink mixes section. i don't think the coconut milk will work because it is too watery. oh and by the way that recipe sounds really good.
For each 1 cup coconut cream called for in a recipe, use 1 cup half-and-half plus 1/4 teaspoon coconut extract.
this is a good substitute
coconut milk will be too thin in comparrason.
