You really want something a little more gooey than plain whipped cream. It needs to act like a glue - or the fondant will slip all over. Go to Wilton.com to get instructions on fondant. When I use fondant, I use the basic buttercream (crisco, flavoring and powdered sugar) or fruit preserves (melted in microwave with a very small amount of water added to make it more spreadable) under the fondant.I'm making a cake that i want to ice in a whipped cream frosting but i'm i still able to put fondant on it?
Works really well with fondant, it's like glue

Royal Icing

Ingredients

3 Tablespoons Meringue Powder

1 lb. (4 cups) confectioners' sugar (about 1lb.)

6 Tablespoons warm water*

Yield: Makes 3 cups icing.

Directions

Beat all ingredients until icing forms peaks (7-10 minutes at low speed with a heavy-duty mixer, 10-12 minutes at high speed with a hand-held mixer).

NOTE: Keep all utensils completely grease-free for proper icing consistency.

* For stiffer icing, use 1 tablespoon less water.

**When using large countertop mixer or for stiffer icing, use 1 tablespoon less water.
